Default Lucid Converters

Anyone use these in a shootout, I've heard they're good.

I just ordered the Lucid 8824 ADAT model to compliment the Digi 888/24 and RME ADI-I DS converters I now use. The Lucid gets good talk, but I've not yet heard the unit. Will post results in a week or so.

How do you like the RME converters?

The RME is very good. My sense after having the unit a few weeks is that I prefer it over the A/D stage of the 888/24. I must qualify though:

1) Nanosyncs clock is in use with both 888 and RME.

2) I have not yet had time to do a blind listening test. Knowing (my own) human nature as I do, I feel this is needed before I get too dogmatic about the RME assessment.

Johhn,

If you like the RME then why are you getting the Lucid instead of another RME with ADAT I/O for much less money?

I had a chance to test the lucid AD9624 this weekend. THe funny thing is that I ws not blown away by the sound.

This could be due to many factors:
1. THe spdif cable was was a never heard of brand :coral I think it was, and it was 10 feet long.

2. THe cable from the preamp to the ad9624 was not from a trusted source, I borrowed it for the testing.

3. The soundcard was syncing to the ad9624. I think this might have caused some sound problems.

Basically, it sounded like stings latest album. THe gritty, 6 inches from the microphone sound that characterizes stings vocals.

An interesting observation was made though. Clocking to the ad9624's clock actually produced a noticeable improvement on the analog inputs of the sound card.

The sound was marginally better than the delta 1010, but I would like to redo the tests with apogee spdif and monster cable and a word clock, and see if the improvement is like WOW

If you only do an AD comparison you will have to ab on a mix or tracks on another digital format cd,dat ect...just running signal through good AD without good DA you will never hear anything worthwhile if you put Lucid's DA96 on the other end of the signal chain and compared it to the Delta box there would not be much to compare it would be like comparing Rosie ODonnal's ass to Heather Locklears.

The only reason I replied to this post is because I have heard both box's plenty and I am also a home studio that works on select projects with all types of musicians. This dosn't change the DA situation and my wife from 8 feet away could absolutely tell you the diff between the Delta and Lucid convertors. It would still be money well spent for just the AD but dont expect to hear a diff in your monitors without good DA. If the Delta stuff fits the bill stick with it, but a Lucid ADA 8824 is with out question a great convertor.
