Default Updater Fails with IE9 installed Question

I saw the sticky thread that the firmware update is incompatible with one of the binaries that is installed with IE9.

Will this be addressed at some point with a new updater, or has an incident been opened with Microsoft support to resolve?

Thank you!

Truthfully? Avid's track record in the past in regards to repairing incompatibilities with Internet Explorer have not been exactly well, timely. There was an issue with IE8 causing the AIR plugins to hang up PT during launch that was unresolved for many months. Hopefully this time around things will be handled better or at least faster. Considering that only a small percentage of overall PT users are using 11R, and a smaller percentage of that are PC users and not all of them are updating their firmware fixing the Web based Firmware Updater is probably not going to be a top priority.

I'm not sure whats involved with fixing the Firmware Updater to play nice with IE9. It may be as simple as adding a line of code to recognize IE9 or it may involve rewriting the entire updater. I assume the installer is fairly modular and updating it is simply a matter of assigning resources to it. But I could well be wrong. Luckily Its easy enough to un install IE9, update the FW and then reinstall IE9. The finger of blame here probably points to MS for changing some core components of I.E. This is somewhat mitigated however by the fact that I.E. release candidate was out for months and compatibility could have been checked.

For all the talk about about Avid supporting both platforms equally the company is very Maccentric internally and sometimes they prioritize things differently than the Windows users. Its the way it is. Its slowly changing.
