Revo Pro -- anyone using this installer? W-7 x64?
Curious. Is anyone using this installer. I know Sonar works with all its plugins using this as an installer (it logs every bit of code for later de-install).
W-7 is kind've hard at first compared to XP -- not very Mac like IMO which is strange as that is the rumor I had heard. Fortunately I have had some kind help doing some regedit tweaks to fix some of the glitches, mouse hover time, etc, and viewed Benoni's video Thank you Benoni! W-7 tweaks: Turning off User Account Control. Changing folder views. Shutting down backdoor ports, mouse hover time, etc. I really can't say enough about this awesome program... Revo Pro, still on the 30 day trial.. but only XP Pro testing it, I know for a fact it works with Sonar on W-7 Pro install. As with W-7 I am still installing Intel Chipset updates, bios updates, etc on W-7 Pro. Delta 66 card driver, etc. Arrrg! I bought a vs 12 seagate for boot drive... now there is a firmware update for this model too. Thankfully I have WD and Hitachi's for audio and samples. Any comments on registry tweaks? Revo Pro? Oh, I'm using Ableton Live 8 & REAPER on PC, Pro Tools on Macintosh. |

Revo uninstaller? Or something diferent.
Um Why? In a over a decade of using PCs I have had the Windows Uninstaller fail exactly once. This is on scores of different computers, hardware test beds, beta test machines using every OS from Win 98 through Win7, servers, beta server builds etc.

Re: Revo Pro -- anyone using this installer? W-7 x64?
Revo Pro is slightly different than their free Revo uninstaller. You open it, use its installer to log every bit of code installed, so a complete uninstall is possible later. You are thinking windows uninstaller deletes all bits of registry code left? I've been advised No. Hkeys for example still remain...among many others.
When you install with Revo Pro: a restore point is first created. This is crucial. Then a logged is kept of what went where. Revo Pro has a forced uninstall option, you must tell it what windows uninstaller de-installed and it will seek out the remaining bits in the registry, using a unique (from their PDF...duh... which I just read) algorithm to protect registry from damage. They claim Registry cleaners are no longer needed -- can actually damage systems. Revo 'knows' when a registry item should not be removed which might damage system components (again from their PDF). It has a built in secure delete feature as well. I did test out the free 30 day trial a few nights ago...it's half price for a limited time $19.62 (no I don't work for them) https://revouninstaller.plimus.com/j...EVO50GOOADSPEC This is a limited time offer, I have no idea how long it will last. I've been missing the secure delete feature built in to the macintosh. Heck its Tax Time... W-7 Pro... MS should copy Apple better IMO. But... a lot of very cool apps. which I've missed out on being a Machead all these years. Especially prior to Unix -- and the OpenSource movement. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For example on the macintosh. Flash uninstaller must be run for each user. LSO supercookies are not de-installed. They are hidden in the registry, or within Apple's system invisible files (not in Macromedia Folders as you would expect). Does Windows uninstaller or the Flash de-installer remove these NOT! It will remove Flash for a logged in user and the macromedia folders (empty) but the hex name is all that is needed on these empty folders. 'Do Not Allow' flash storage... this is how tricky Adobe/Macromedia and their new spyware aquisition company have become. HP Printers often install insecure Flash 6 at root, admin priveleges, I've even seen Flash images below root: which is impossible in Unix, but lo and behold, I reported this flash image to Apple. Tee'd me off, we're talking boot level one directory below root i.e. 'image/root/' in the directory hierarchy. Was pleased to see a program like Revo Pro. Curious if others used it? Don't believe me. Download 'Better Security' addon for latest Firefox. Open up options. 20-50 Flash LSO Supercookies hidden in both windows and apple machines. Gauranteed. De-install Flash. LSO supercookies remain. I am on a campaign to know exactly what is on my system and where, both Mac and Windows... I'm tired of being hacked and tracked (they go together) so forgive me my rant. I think this program is awesome, the GUI is extremely well designed, it is basic enough for most users and advanced enough for poweruser (to force an uninstall of registry items not deleted by the MS windows uninstall program).
