Default PT 9 & Instrument Expansion Deal - Confusion

I downloaded PT 9 without selecting the added deal of 40% off PTIEP. Reconsidered and I thought I'd quite like to get it, but figured that I'd missed out as I didn't select the option at the time I was buying PT 9. Then I saw this:

http://www.avid.com/us/specialoffers...expansion-pack

Rang Avid support in UK today. They thought the same as I had originally thought, i.e. you had to select the deal when downloading. But looking at the last couple of lines of the link, it appears that this offer is open to anyone who purchases and registers PT 9 until December 20. So, can anyone clear this up or tell me how to get this magical discount code for 40% off PTIEP??

Cheers,
Midi.

I had this exact same situation and it looks like you MUST opt into the promo at time of purchase, or you're SOL: I bought PT9, read the page link you you posted above where it says: "Purchase and register Pro Tools 9 software at your local reseller or the Avid® Webstore.....receive your Pro Tools Instrument Expansion Pack discount code" and thought I could get a code even after my PT9 purchase. The page link above implies we can get the 40% discount code on IEP buys AFTER we've bought & registered PT9.

But I wrote Avid Support asking about the discount code, got this reply from [email protected] saying:

You are entitled to receive a 40% discount on PTIEP if you order Pro Tools 9 + PTIEP bundle from the
drop down menu of the product's page between Nov. 4 th and Dec.17th.
This promo option must be selected at the time of the purchase, and will not be offered in any other form.

We apologize for any misunderstanding on this promotion.

Thank you for your interest in Pro Tools.

Best regards

The AVID link I posted is clearly misleading. Again, check out the last couple of lines:

http://www.avid.com/us/specialoffers...expansion-pack

It strongly suggests that a discount code can be received after purchasing PT 9 either at a reseller or the web store. There is no mention of a precondition to avail of the deal at the time of download of PT 9.

It's in AVID's interest to stand by the clear implication of their advertised promotion. Given how misleading it is, they should sort this out and send an email to all those who purchased PT 9 to have the option to avail of this deal - as stated in their own promotional material - before December 20.

I 100% agree, it would be great if Avid would/could extend the 40% for those who jumped on purchase/cross-grades because they're missing out on some extra revenue. For example, perhaps someone bought their upgrade but then realized they have some extra cash and always wanted Strike or Structure -- feeling as if they're slighted on that 40% precondition thing, they're not going to buy for awhile, if ever.

hmmm... yea, I was looking for that 40% promo code right after I downloaded PT9, thinking it would be showing up on the "my account" page or in an email. I never noticed any choice in the drop-down menu... I guess I must have been too excited about getting PT9. Oh well, guess I'm not getting it then.

Yes. I read the announcement to mean that after crossgrading or purchasing PT9 that a code will be made available via my account allowing me to purchase PTIEP at a 40% discount for the stated time period. Starting November 11. There is no other way to interpret that statement.

AVID needs to honor their advertising statement.

Absolutely. The reason you and others expected a discount code after purchasing PT 9 is because that's what it says will happen on the AVID website:

Purchase and register Pro Tools 9 software at your local reseller or the Avid® Webstore to receive your Pro Tools Instrument Expansion Pack discount code and get it at an incredible savings today.
Expiration: Offer expires December 20, 2010.

The promotional material on the AVID website currently mentions NO conditions which have been emailed to one customer in private (see above), i.e. having to 'purchase from a drop down menu' or having to avail at the 'time of purchase':

http://www.avid.com/us/specialoffers...expansion-pack

This is not our misunderstanding as customers but a botched promotion which has completely misled customers into thinking that if they purchase PT 9 they will then receive a 40% discount code off another product. AVID need to save face here and honor their own words. They should sort it out pronto: Offer an apology and email new PT 9 customers with the discount code - or a link to one - as promised.
