Default D-Command Peculiar Group Issue

i have a strange aberration with grouping on my d-command (this is an original d-command) that has been a constant issue; whether with protools 8, 9 or 10. perhaps others have seen this problem?

open the group assign page (either on the d-command or on the screen); assign groups as usual. all the assigned fader group lights illuminate, indicating that they are members of a particular group. all is normal.

except...

none of the faders or mutes respond...they act as if they are not grouped.

the only solution, is to close the session, then reopen the session, and voila! grouping works like it is supposed to.

any other users have this issue? d command has the latest firmware; so i'm stumped...
