Default How to back up custom PT app shortcuts

Hi All,

Hoping somebody can clue me in here. I'm on 10.12.6

I like to use the "Keyboard" pane in mac os system prefs to define custom keyboard shortcuts, and I need to find a way to back these up.

Every time that I trash pro tools preferences, I have had to restore these manually, and now I have enough so that it's not so easy to remember. They are all kind of muscle memory things now.

If there was a way that I could re-load these from a backup before re-starting PT, that would save me heaps of time.

BTW, I did see a couple of articles online about this:

https://apple.stackexchange.com/ques...-sync-purposes.

I'd just like to hear from users who have gotten predictable results restoring their custom shortcuts.

Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Pete

Try this...

Application Shortcuts are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist

Property lists of applications (like ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist or ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.chess/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.chess.plist).

Hi Loud,

Thanks for chiming in here... yeah, I have grabbed those preferences for future use.

Have you tried this? What was your result?

My concern is that restoring a file such as:

com.avid.ProTools.plist

after trashing pt prefs and before cpu restart, but prior to re-launching pro-tools,

it might contain other corruptions that caused me to trash pt prefs in the first place.

Thanks,

Pete

Hey Peter,

Yes, that is a concern with the PT prefs. I haven’t run into any issues however. You can clear PT prefs, remake your shortcuts, and save that pref for a later restore should you have to clear preferences in the future. In theory, the earlier saved prefs won’t have the corruption you just trashed.

All hypothetical.

Hey Gents, thanks... that seems like a logical approach.

Like so many, I rely on the Pete Gates PT Prefs app...

THIS^^ This works for me on Sierra (10.12.6) & PT|U 2018.7. I have quite a lot of custom shortcuts, so this would be a real PITA if there wasn't an easy way to backup and restore them.

Peter! I use Keyboard Maestro. Totally avoids this issue and does way, way more.
