There are no fees for simply having an iLok account and using an iLok. If you want ZDT, then there is a fee for that service and if you transfer licenses to another account, there is a fee for that service.

I've had an iLok for 7 or 8 years now and I have never directly paid them anything. Now if I want ZDT insurance, that would cost. Or if I sold a license to someone else and transferred it to their account, then I would pay a fee for that.

And, not charging so far for normal license handling does not mean they won't in future. You could mention Avid in this context too - what happend there?

It feels I'm in for a relationship with a vendor I didn't buy anything from.

Steinberg we know own the Syncrosoft system so there we can expect:
one company - one policy

The same with Waves that abandoned iLok and made their own.

Two companies . any policy can be expected.
