Default 512mb Cache?!

Why does digidesign insist that a 512mb cache setting is ideal for PT performance? Is it really necessary? I mean, everything else on my CPU is ridiculously slow as a result.
thanks,

Default Re: 512mb Cache?!

I think that they tell us that as it is the middle of the cache road...

That said, I change back and forth from lower cache when I'm tracking so that things are sped up on screen to higher cache when mixing so that I run more plugs etc. It does slow down the start but allows more plugs-automation to happen.
Just my guess anyway.
