Default How do you get a "Haunted" or "ghostly" sound

You know that kind of wavy synth or keyboard that you might hear in a horror surf tune. How do you achieve that sound in Pro Tools ME.

thx everyone

I'm sure there are sounds that other people can give you but I can at least put you in a direction. Those sounds were created by an instrument called a "Theramin".

I haven't tried this but, if you have the vst wrapper, here's a free theramin plugin. There are probably more and maybe some rtas. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the protools vst's have a similar sound as well.

I don't have the vst wrapper =[

Would the Waves Mercury Bundle cover me as far as the VST goes?

Go Here:

http://www.air-users-group.com/xpand2.html

Then type in "spooky" into the search field

This yields about 4 patches in Xpand2 that might be what you are looking for.

I'm not at my PT rig so I can't check them out myself..

You already have Xpand2 if you are running PT8..

I'm pretty sure the Mercury Bundle is just effects that you apply to existing tracks. I don't know if there are any virtual instruments in it. You might be able to find an effect somewhere in those endless plugins but I'm not sure which one. You're better off using Xpand like flommer suggested.

The VST wrapper is only 100 bucks (80 if you look around). Peanuts compared to the thousands of dollars the Mercury Bundle costs

Yeah I have Xpand2 on PT8 but the "spooky" patches here are not included. How do I get them?

Otherwise, thanks for the help guys.

You have to navigate via the category first, ie. "soft pads" "Ambience + FX"

Everybody should have the same factory presets from Digi...

Here are some instructions on how to program an analog modeling synth to simulate a theremin.

http://www.guitarplayer.com/article/...e/jun-07/29122

I gave it a try with Hybrid and the sound is kinda fun

Vacuum can do it too, but not as much control...
