Default Safety Mute

AVID! PLEASE incorporate some sort of safety mute nto your software when the maths goes awry.

Example : http://postimg.org/image/s2sroxvc1/

A MAXED-OUT "thrrrrrrrmp" (presumably from a plug-in that's not quite playing ball) is not only horribly unpleasant, it can obviously cause damage to speakers, amps, ears, nerves, etc.

Here's an idea : the moment the maths reaches a value that's an unreasonable value over 0 on any master - and definitely before 250.6 as displayed above - the playback should MUTE and STOP with an error message.

We've been putting up with this in various guises for years, and it's about time it bloody well stopped.

No? No one else get this? I've just had it again while I had headphones on. With a fresh install and (as far as I can ascertain) all up-to-date plugs.

Everyone is mixing maxxed out waveforms nowadays, so it would mean very silent mastering rooms

You can do this on your own, with the Channel Strip plug-in. In the Comp/Limit section, set the ratio to 0:1, turn depth to "off", then set the threshold at max. It will then work as a a safety mute that kills any signal that exceeds the threshold (which I think is 0.0 dBFS, might go higher I can't remember) while leaving everything else untouched.

I'm not looking for solutions for my own particular rig, this has happened on and off and various different rigs throughout my ProTooling career. I just get so fed up with it.

On all 48 outputs?

If need be, yes.

Presumably you are monitoring through a stereo pair at some point. 48 outputs leads me to believe you're using a console, you could route the 2bus back through an aux track and put a single instance of Channel Strip on it.

Maybe my fix won't work for you, but it was worth mentioning.
