Default Re: will Protools HD ever get ARA or an equivalent Edit System

There are other platforms and vendors that have announced ARA 2 support, but I have not heard anything like that about Avid / Pro Tools. It may be a long time coming (if ever) because integrating with AAX is a whole different ballgame than integrating with VST, and the integration requires some reworking of editing on the host. I believe (could be wrong) S1, Reaper, and Logic are all on board with ARA 2 support currently. I know Reaper will be releasing it almost simultaneously with the Melodyne ARA2 release, and S1 might be doing the same.

ARA integration in Pro Tools would be a game changer for Pro Tools/Melodyne users in terms of workflow. The current workflow far too cumbersome when compared to ARA compatible DAWs. If Avid starts losing loyal customers like me to DAWs like Studio One they're in trouble. I work for a major network on the east coast. My company made the switch from Media Composer to Premiere a few years ago. Now Avid is poised to lose their foothold in audio here. If I change my DAW preference for my home studio it's only a matter of time until make the change at my work facility. At this point it's looking very likely. If that happens Avid loses the largest audio post facility in NYC through no fault but their own.

Interesting...

You say with aax it is a different story, than VST...
But Logic will get Ara2...and Logic does not support vst...
So is AU a different story, than VST?...

Workaround: a word that means "my DAW doesn't do that".

Each plugin spec is different. I know little about AU, but if Logic is implementing ARA 2 through AU then they have it figured out.

We have just posted a story with a video demonstrating the power of ARA2 with Revoice Pro in Studio One.

We need this in Pro Tools asap. This would revolutionise the workflow with applications like iZotope RX and Synchro Arts Revoice Pro, in fact, any tool that currently needs a round trip. Imagine changes made in RX being immediately reflected on the timeline in Pro Tools. As we say on Production Expert "it's not often we use this phrase but ARA2 is a gamechanger".

Absolutely Mike. ARA2 from what I have seen thus far, is a total game changer.
I can imagine working away in RX on a section of audio and using the S3 and Dock to run the Pro Tools session, whilst hearing your RX edits in complete context (including the track plugin chain) of the edit/mix. Much better than having to setup RX monitor etc and as you say, doing the back & forth round trip.
