Default Change a track from mono to stereo in PT12

Sorry for the noob question, just made the switch to PT after years of Logic. (Loving it so far)

If i create a mono track, called 'Guitar' for example, but decide I want to change that track to a stereo track, how do I do this?

It's particularly frustrating because I've created a template with blank drum tracks, and a few of the audio files for different songs which im making new projects for are stereo, so I'm having to create a new stereo track and route it all back through my buses which takes a while. In Logic there's a button at the bottom of the track in mix view, which I can click to change from stereo to mono.

I can't seem to find a way online, every time I google I'm met with topics about splitting mono audio tracks to stereo etc, this isn't what I mean!

No such thing in Pro Tools, you have to create every track again in stereo.

Yeah, that's a handy little feature in Logic. In PT you can drag a stereo file onto two mono tracks, however, which is faster than creating new stereo tracks. Until you update your templates, at least.

if you add a mono-to stereo plugin (chorus for example) for
guitar , the following plugins and the output of the track are Stereo,
while the input and/or source stays in mono...
makes more sense to me , since a guitar signal is mostly mono
and only FX create stereo signals.

if that helps

regards

Makes sense if you need to insert a reverb or a ping pong delay for example on a mono track instead of using a send. Some amp simulators need this function in order to make proper use of the double cab function or the room algorithms.
Bad news for the OP is that using this trick won't make the input or the track itself stereo.

Maybe the real question is; WHY do you feel the need to make this change(trying to understand the "end game")?

Some things to consider(after all, you are new to Pro Tools):
1-There is a well-documented "hack" for creating Track Presets(which I highly recommend learning and using).
2-Its possible to simply drag&drop a stereo audio file onto the EDIT window(in a blank area), which will create a new stereo track.
3-most of us create session templates without any audio files already existing(but of course, you may have a particular need)
4-Don't get discouraged as learning any DAW, AFTER knowing another, makes the learning curve seem steeper

Last few post did just that, I think. At least that's how I read them.

If I understand the OP correctly, the problem lies in having a template with mono drum tracks, and inserting stereo audio files.

Or maybe I'm the one who's not getting it...

Reviving a slightly old thread:

I believe what the OP wants to do is drag audio files from the finder or the Workspace into a specific track in the session.

Say for example the first file he drags from the Workspace creates a stereo audio track. He then digs through his sample/FX library and finds a mono file that he wants to use, he cannot drop that mono file in the stereo track.

Abelton, for example, allows you to drag any file to any track.
