Cool 11R Firmware 2.0 upgrade - looking for an internet workaround

Hi to all!

Was just about to make the leap to the 11 Rack Expansion Pack, but decided to read the FAQ from Sticky first. That raised a question that has put the brakes on the whole program!

According to the FAQ, you've got to be connected to the internet to be able to update the firmware for the 11 Rack to version 2.0.

Well, the studio's computer is NOT connected to the internet, never has been connected to the internet, and getting it to do so from it's current location would be a major hassle (plus I'm really into the "purity" thing of never having had the machine exposed to ANYTHING other than the stuff I feed it directly!).

So . . . stuck with this dilemma: how to buy/upgrade/enjoy the new 11 Rack stuff without an internet connection. Looks like I need a workaround of some kind.

Any suggestions?

Cheers!

You don't have a laptop available you could plug it into?

Yeah I guess it's either download onto a stick/Laptop then connect laptop to 11r & connect to internet.

I think that will mean the Laptop will have to have the 11R drivers installed (then uninstall them after firmware upgrade)to be able to connect 11R to it.

Or;
Disconnect the 11R and take it to a computer (Again with 11R drivers installed) that is connected to internet.

Someone correct me of I'm wrong about the drivers.

The internet connection is only necessary for the firmware upgrade. Once that's done you can install everything else (plugin updates etc) from the stick/Laptop to your studio Comp.

Correct, you just need the internet for the firmware upgrade and you can install the Pro Tools piece of the update as many times as you need.

Cool Re: 11R Firmware 2.0 upgrade - looking for an internet workaround

Many thanks to all who responded.

There is an internet-connected computer in the same room, though not too portable . . . I guess a combination of long USB cables/hubs may make the crossing!

Will post later if the plan worked.

Cheers!
