Default CHANGING TEMPO WITHOUT MOVING MIDI NOTES?

I have some drums files for BFD that were supplied to me that are a messs and I want to quantize them, the only problem is the artists did not record them to a click they just hit record and went at it so there are no tempos set and when I got to match the grid with their performance the midi will move with the tempo change. Is there a way to get the grid to change without effecting the midi notes?

Thanks a lot guys!

Change the midi tracks to sample based (change the green metronome icon to a blue dot). When you get the tempo map there change them back to tick based.

Do you know if this is a newer (7.0) feature? I'm using 6.7 and can't find any options or the "green metronome".

My manual states matter-of-factly that "MIDI is tick-based", and doesn't offer any suggestions on how to change that.
