using 003r as midi interface

Is it possible to use the ProTools 003Rack purely as a midi interface? Does it function in this regard, or do I need to get a separate midi interface (usb, for example) to go directly from my controller to my computer? I am trying to use my midi controller to enter notes into a notation program (Finale). Thanks!

Ok, to be more specific, how do you do it? I can't get it to work. I get midi to the 003 (the led flickers) but nothing to Finale. Probably a matter of configuring everything correctly, but I can't figure out how. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, you would need to configure Finale to use the 003r's MIDI ports. I'm not familiar enough with Finale to give you specific instruction.

Couldn't you just create a midi track on PT, compose your sequence, and then export from PT as a .MID file and then import the .MID file to Finale to continue your edits?

Yes, I'm sure I could compose in ProTools and then export to Finale. I'm just too married to Finale. I like to see the notes on the page, that's just how I like to work. No luck in getting things configured though. Finale even recognizes the midi ports on the 003r, so I'm pretty sure it's something going on with Finale. At this point I can't see spending too much more time trying to figure it out, when I could just get a $40 midi/usb interface, bypass the 003r, and solve the problem.

I also am trying to use my 003r with Finale.
Using instrument track with Kontak but at the time that I Finale plays the score I hang the computer. That you use your configuration?
