Default To dither or not to dither...that is the question.

Hello,

If you record at 24/48 and bounce to disc without using a dithering plug in, but however, you select 16/44.1 from the bounce to disc menu, are you in effect dithering? Let me back up....I have usually used either the Digi dither plug or the one that comes with the Waves L1 ultramaximizer. The other day I bounced a quick mix to cd without a dither plug in and just selected 16/44 from the bounce to disc menu and it didn't sound too bad. Which, brought me to this question....What is the difference between using a dither plug in and just selecting 16/44 from the bounce to disc menu (without using a dither plug in).

Thanks so much for your time.

If you BTD without manually inserting a dithering plugin, you'll be truncating.

Thanks...Can you put as easy of a definition on dithering? I think I understand what you mean by truncating.

Thanks

Try the "papers" section of Nika Aldrich's website.
