Default Moving midi notes

Hi, I'm fairly new to midi and I guess I have a two part question.I am confused when trying to change the location of a single midi note. And being able to move a note and change the sound as the location changes.
First. Trying to move a midi note when highlighting it the whole"loop"is highlighted and it can't be done.I can delete the note but when trying to use the pencil tool to replace it,it appears to be rendered unusable, (grayed out).
Second, can a note that is in a "loop" be transposed. example, (snare, cymbal, kick ) moving it to a different location on the scale? I have been able to do this if I use a controller triggering single notes.

Thanks

you can just use the grabber tool to move notes up and down (pitch) or left and right (time)

Yes I have tried using the grabber tool but right clicking it highlights the whole loop and will not allow me to move it.

Are you in notes view?

Have you ensured no regions are highlighted (so you don't end up moving several notes by mistake).

Then the grabber should work.

Also, check my signature for a link to the "E is for EDIT" tutorial that may assist you in streamlined MIDI editing in Pro Tools.

Transposing notes, you could highlight the note(s) and drag 'em to the new note, or use the transpose function (though trying to think it if permits transposing single notes while leaving other notes untouched).

Also did you ask if you can change sounds mid-sequence? Yes, via the program change view, then click along the MIDI track where you want the change to happen, and a Program Change window opens for you to choose the preset you want it to change to.
