Default Video *editing* in Pro Tools HD?

Just a question to ask..

the HD software actually has some video *editing* built in, right? Not just playback?

is it enough for a basic music video without investing in something else for now?
I really want that darn automation trim.

I also wanted to muck around a but with surround. The problem for me is cause i have damaged nerves/hearing in my right ear cause of recurring tumours, I don't know if i can even conceptualise the placement of surround and mix it properly.

But yet, i am the way I am and i am curious. I wish i could demo HD. That is a big oversight from Avid.. I mean, not to be able to demo the exact features one would get for the 1899$ price difference.

Video editing in Pro Tools is basic editing: hard edits only. No transitions.if that can work for your music video — sure. When you output, you’ll need to re-convert the video. ProTools just bundles the clips in a QuickTime wrapper unless you convert the video on bounce which “consolidates” the multiple video clips/edits. And most playback of QuickTime doesn’t handle multiple “clips” in one Quicktime wrapper well without glitching.

Thanks for that.

Cheers

Yes - and I've found that Quicktime might play it ok locally, but Windows Media Player won't and Vimeo won't either.

There's also Media Composer First, which is free and would probably be a better fit for what you want to do.

Also, DaVinci Resolve is a free video editing tool. I don't know much about it, but it has a reputation for having excellent color correction tools.

One word of warning: Resolve has graphics card requirements. Make sure you meet those otherwise it won't run.
