Default Is Atto UL3D better than PCI DC ?

I am trying to improve SCSI performance on very big sessions on a expanded 7 card 24MIX system by eventually switching from the Atto PCI DC card to the more recent UL3D (33mhz model).
Of course I know that disc performance is important, but recent experiences have shown me that the disc is not everything since I can read on one firewire 7200 disc session that bug on TWO SCSI 10k drives !

Any similar experiences?

My educated guess would be that the onboard dsp and buffers of the UL3d are better than the PCI DC
But I am getting very conflicting view on this, ranging from "don't bother, they are basically the same", to "UL3D is faster", or even that it will be worse on UL3D due to higher PCI overhead
Who am I to trust ????

Any help welcomed

I have a 450 G4 AGP soon to be speeded up to 1.2GHz

Not a sexy topic I admit, but I would like those dreaded error messages ("disk may be too slow" blah blah blah) to go away for ever.

By the way, my atto drivers are tuned exactly as recommended by Digidesign

For what I know, the UL3D is compatible with 160 and 320 drives if you go for LVD mode.

The PCI DC is not compatible with 320 drives and you will not get any other new drives.

I´m working with the UL3D in my Studio and the same setup twice again in a Studio near me without any problems (since they changed from the PCI DC to UL3D).

Cheers Wolfgang

Yes, I have the same question as Mark. Anyone who has switched from the DC card to the UL3D, can you please tell us what performance differences you found?

Thanks
