Oh also:
- i have tried repair disk permissions.
- the mbox mini 2 driver i used was 10.3.3 (Apr 12, 2013)
- & i did delete the database & preferences correctly except for the file com.digidesign.ProTools.plist.lockfile which i could not delete as it was not in my preferences folder at all.. ( & yes i did hold down option to get into the library/prefs)

Wasn't this fixed by holding down N while the PT splash screen was up and changing your playback engine

No it wasnt, so far as i can tell i have treid everything in this thread, but for uninstalling & reinstalling.. which i think i will do now hey since it seems the only option left.

Try out 10.3.2 first unless you have to be at 10.3.3

And keep going till you have a problem

ok, so i uninstalled PT & downloaded 10.3.2 to reinstall as you suggested..
However the installation failed (was unsuccessful)..
Ive never had this happen before so i want to make sure there is not a step i now need to do.. Or should i just dump the 10.3.2 dmg & download it again to reinstall?

Did you run an uninstall (and select the "clean" option) before installing again?

What *exact* error message(s) did you get?

Why are you still messing around with 10.3.2 when 10.3.5 is available? What exact OS etc. are you running on (e.g. how about some of the basic info asked for in the "Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting!" link on this page.

i was messing around with 10.3.2 because the above member suggested it & it seemed feasible to start lower & upgrade in case the latest version had some glitches to be ironed out.. I was on 10.3.28 & that wasn't working with the mbox mini 2 for reasons i have explained earlier, so i uninstalled it using the clean option, then downloaded and tried to install 10.3.2.
WThe installation failed and it simply said something to the effect (though i cant remember verbatim) the installation was unsuccessful please contact the supplier for more info..

I usually put my specs in my posts but forgot to on the last one, if u check my previous 4 or 5 posts u can see that.
here they are:

so should i redownload & try to install 10.3.2, or go straight to 10.3.5, or is there some reason the prior installation failed thus requiring me to do something prior to trying again..

Just do an uninstall with clean option and install the latest version. And report exact verbatim error messages if there are any.

saved my life! yes – changed playback engine back first, then I/O and all is fantastic again!

i plugged a weird cheap audio interface into my mac yesterday and it must have remembered it's preference.
