Default Physical Fader for Writing Automation

I am interested in getting some sort of actual physical fader that I can use to mix. I am mostly doing sound design/podcast work, so I don't need a bunch of faders for a big mix, maybe just one or a couple. I mostly would like to have a tactile way to write automation (either volume or plug-in...I'm assuming you can assign any parameter?) I have seen some Avid Artist series stuff, but maybe they're outdated for my setup? I am running PT 2018.4 on a 2016 Macbook Pro, Sierra OS.

True, but even the single fader version(or the original faderport) will do the job nicely(Behringer makes similar products for even less $$)

I'm pretty sure that the single fader Faderport (original and v.2) can't automate plugin parameters, only volume and pan.

I'm not sure about the 8 and the 16 (haven't used them).

They can control plugin automation but I'm not sure if they can do it in Pro tools under HUI emulation.

A used Alphatrack would be an option for the OP if they only want a single fader but, given it was discontinued a while ago, it may not work with the current version of Pro tools.
