I'm using the new avid plugs in 11 too and they work great. Lol

Dragging from Windows file explorer or desktop to the Pro Tools edit window.

Hi Matt, yes it appears running as admin stops you drag n dropping from file explorer. I wonder why..? It works when not running as admin. I drag drop from the workspace window, which runs fine as admin so no biggie for me but thanks for pointing it out, may affect some users.

Thanks for checking. It certainly is weird. However, I personally haven't encountered any problems with running PT as non-admin since the PT10 days. Not that I use drag-and-drop often, but it's good to have.

Sounds very similar to what people were adviced to do in PT10, in playback engine settings: set number of cores to one or two less than max. I'm still on PT10, and without that fix I have trouble with CPU spikes.
OP, did you try Sounddesicions suggestion?

But through some trial and error experimentation I came up with something that seemed to fix the problem.

I don't know if it just a coincidence or if that actually fixed the problem.

But worth trying
Unchecking the "Ignore errors.." box has been the only way I've encountered to stop PT making the audio produce a "ring modulation" or garbled noise when encountering an error message.
It's been this way through 10/11 and now 12.
I do wish Avid would fix it.

This is ridiculous. Went from 12.4 to 12.5 last night and I have now lost almost a full day of recording because I get the 9173 error. I had to go back to a restore point in Windows 7 and now PT 12.4 just hangs at opening... so I tried a repair and it still hangs. The darn software just won't open.

Update 1: I now get a ProToolsQuickTimeServer.exe has stopped working message as I try to load PT. It then takes about 10 minutes for PT to load... any clues?

Update 2: Got fed up with this. Completely uninstalled PT, cleaned up the registry and reinstalled 12.4 and all is back to normal. What is wrong with 12.5???

Just a reminder... Clear all cache's run verify drive then permissions if all is well.
If runing SSD drives, check that trim is engaged. (Link to what I shows the difference)
