You don't waste any time, do ya Dog? I put this new forum up about a minute ago.
I don't know the answer to that one. Now that we've released Pro Tools 5.1, we're hoping to add a lot more in the midi area for the next release.
I was going to write you a nice little "welcome to the new forum" message, but I think there is enough interest already that it will take care of itself just fine.

Thanks to John Caldwell, aka Mount Royal, for an excellent suggestion.

Also! I Really Hope Digidesign Adresses midi latency issues like other sequencer companies are.

Thanks Bruce for this forum. Great suggestion.

As Digi considers adding midi improvements to PT/PTle...I'd like to throw something out for discussion.

A tempo map editor.

What if you want to go from say a tempo of 120..to 70...in a "gradual" manner.

This has presented a problem for me doing orchestral sequences. Most sequencers allow for tempo changes...but..in a straight line..abrupt way...ie..at bar/beat..switch to X tempo. Anyone who has dealt with this issue..knows the workarounds are time consuming..and not very reliable..or..reproduceable.

Seeing that Digi is approaching the midi implimentation in a unique way...I thought I might make a suggestion..on what I would like to see..and..that no one else has..that I know of.

Tempo change curves.

How about a change tempo window..that not only has..the basic..change to/from..but..a graphic curve...much like a fadein/out curve?

This way..you could adjust the "velocity" of the change..in a much more flexible way.

Have a "use velocity curve" checkbox.

Whithout this checked...the tempo just changes..from one..to the next..abruptly (as it is now).

When the "use curve" is checked..a graph is "ungreyed" or highlites..which..has a straight "linear" curve by default.

This would "ramp" the tempo change..from one speed to the next..over a specified (selection, or maually entered) mumber of bars. GREAT for ritards...accel..etc.

Then...have it so..you can click on the curve..add points to the line..and "ramp" the curve..to weight the tempo change..ie..more "sweeping" type of changes...slower up front..a faster accel at the end.

It would function much like a fade or cross fade curve.

I've never seen this implimented in this way.

This also..seems, at least in my mind, to follow what Digi has laid down in PT 5 of using "different" approaches to midi tools that are based more on audio type tools..but..still..effective.

A second approach..based on the same idea..would be to use the pen tool in the conductor track...much like editing or drawing controller info...right in the conductor window to draw..tempo change "velocity curves"

What do you think?

Excellent Idea!

I want one! I've always wondered if there was a "fades curve" tool available. I guess there isn't. Yet

Great suggestion dcornutt.
This and NOTATION (...!!!) will make me switch from my Atari......
(even if the MIDI timing is still the
best on that old machine ....)/P.

Yes!! I agree, that could be a very cool feature. I would also like to have notation. I am looking forward to the day where I can stop using Cubase but for now the support of MIDI in Pro Tools is behind what I need.
