mbox mini suddenly stopped playing sound

Hi there,

I have an mBox mini (1st gen), and protools 9, on a macbook pro 5.5 (OSX10.6.8) and everything was working fine when I left the studio yesterday.

but today suddenly, no sound is being output from either the speaker outs in the back nor from the headphone out in the front.

It is being read by the computer, shows up in the list of sound input and output devices, and the blue LED light is on. The audio output and input is set up for Avid mbox mini, but no sound is coming out of any of the ports (nor from the computers internal speakers either)

I've read through the forums on here, but most people who had this problem were on windows based computers, or they were having trouble getting sound to work for non-protools applications... I'm on a mac, and can't get it to work for any applications.

any ideas?

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers/preference pane?

It's an mBox 1 mini... not 2

A friend just sent me a program for reinstalling the protools preferences first.
I also adjusted a few things in settings, hardware, and playback engine.

That enabled me to get it working within protools.. woot!
but outside of protools.

I have a performance in two days and was planning to use the mbvox mini as the soundcard... for pure data and modul8.... so now, I'm going to reboot and see if I can get it working for those programs again.

right now, when I go into my general system preferences, under audio, if I select mbox mini... I get a message saying "the selected device has no output controls, and a symbol that looks like "do not enter"... circle with a diagonal line through.

hopefully rebooting will help now that I have adjusted some settings in protools.

The first Mbox Mini released was the Mbox 2 Mini. The second model was the Avid Mbox Mini. Confusing, because that was the "3rd gen" series of the Mbox product line, but the Avid branded line (the most recent) is only the second model of the Mbox Mini, Mbox Pro hardware.

In any case, it sounds like you need to download the Mbox 2 Mini drivers, which will then be accessed in your Mac OS System Preferences.
