Default Re: Controlling EQ3

Kyle,

Thanks for the clarity, however you didn't address one bug mentioned. If you use the native EQ3-1Band plugin in HighPass or LowPass filter type, and you change the Channel Encoder's mapping from Frequency to Q (by Encoder's SEL), while it shows Q parameters updating on the S3 when turning the encoder, those changes don't reflect in the plugin's UI values. I think this is a bug.

Steps to repro:
  1. Insert the EQ3-1Band in a channels insert.
  2. Set the type of the EQ plugin to either LowPass or HighPass filter type.
  3. Attention the track (track SEL)
  4. In the Channel Controls (top row of S3 surface) press the EQ encoder.
  5. In the Channel Controls (top row of S3 surface) SEL the encoder for Frequency to re-assign it to Q parameter.
  6. Adjust the Q with the encoder.
Expected behavior: For the value for Q to update in the plugin's Q value.
Actual behavior: Q in plugin UI does not update with encoder values shown in S3 Channel Control display.

Default Re: Controlling EQ3

welcome to the Test-Team...

I've tested this with other EQs. Same thing...
My guess is that it's a S3 EQ mapping bug/feature that via the sel button it only enables Q settings. But the Slope of a filter is a different parameter (calling it Q in the Avid EQ is technically incorrect).
So it seems the S3 EQ mapping is missing the Slope parameter.

Is IdeaScale the best way to report these bugs?

Ooo, do I get paid for testing I think you are on the right track as to the parameter mismatch.

Just checked out IdeaScale. I'll post a bug there, but it seems I need to setup yet another Avid acct to do that.

Plugin mappings for EQ and Dyn knobsets are standardized, so the same parameter type shows up in the same place. The arrangement is such that the most important controls are on the first 8 knobs as this arrangement is common to Artist Mix and Artist Control as well since they only have 8 knobs. So, that is why when you focus EQ you see Low, Low Mid, High Mid, High on the first 8 as those are the EQ controls used most. The second 8 are filter, mid band, in, out. This actually makes working with EQ and Dyn plugins more efficient because whether you use Channel Strip or EQ3 or something else, the parameter arrangement doesn't change. If you enter the Inserts knobset and access a plugin you will get an arrangement based on the page table the manufacturer created. This could be made to follow the plugin GUI or based on their own preference for layout of controls.

Press the 'In' switch on HPF Freq and LPF Freq knob cells to change the filter type.

The issue with parameter values not showing up on the OLEDs is a bug and only seems to happen in certain situations, so some users will never see it. Its fixed in the next version of EuControl.

Thanks,

This is false. This is not making working on EQ or DYN more efficient. This is the most horrible thing about EUCON. There are different EQ and DYN plugins for which we (PT users) like to have different parameter maps, like we used to do on Control24, Pro Control, Command8, ICON. What's even more horrible - when we open an EQ or DYN plugin using "insert" button, the layout is different! That is so wrong and confusing.

If you want to make Eucon usable for controlling plugins, take a look at your own products, starting with Command8 and just copy it! Please! You are approaching it with a false assumption that there was something wrong with Digidesign controllers. No. They were brilliant. With Eucon you're trying to reinvent the wheel and you have failed so far. Just copy Command8. It's easy. Look how great it is to work on it with plugins on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faqwPMq_Kqo
