I would also turnoff spotlight indexing. I know you sent the drives to private, but i would go further and turn it off.

This is the way to actually turn off Spotlight.
/System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.Spotlight.plist
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
You will delete the .plist files or actually move them to a backup drive off the computer and reboot the computer. This way the cpu wont cycle through all the time on any drive what so ever.

well...i don't know about quick...it probably takes about 1 Min to 2 mins. thats with no plug-ins in the plug-in folder. that seems a little long for an 8 core with 8 gigs of ram.

my mac pro 4 core at work takes about 20 sec with waves gold bundle installed.

but i can live with that...if the sessions would only load quickly.

I hate to say this but sometimes it has to be a full reinstall of the O.S. and PT. That being said when PT loads do you notice any specific plugins loading for a long time and are they the same plugins you use on your session that takes 10 to 15 mins to load? The reason why I mention about a complete reinstall is because I have been through this in the years past and I realize that the time it takes to trouble shoot the problem, you can use that time to simply start over and reinstall fresh.

i'm afraid you maybe right...when i start pro tools it doesn't seem to hang on any plug-ins loading...infact i've moved all the plug-ins from the "plug-in folder" to the "unused plug-i folder". but when i start a session, it seem to hang (or take a long time 3-4 mins) on "building edit window" then it go's on to "building mix window" for another 3-4 mins, then "building transport window" for another 3-4 mins. it does it every time.

WOW, that's weird I just started to have the same problem, the only thing I did prior to that is separate regions?, it's now taking forever to build the mix, plus error - 6093 and tell me to increase buffer to 1024, but it's at 1024, I wonder cause I split all the regions into many small audio files?

Problem Resolved!!!

i did a clean install on the OS and reinstalled pro tools and pro tools starts FAST! the program and the sessions start fast, everything is fine. i also did not install the "additional software DVD that came with the Mac Pro...like garage band...i'm not sure what else is on the dvd...and i made sure this time that the automatic updater on the mac was turned off so no updates have been installed at this time.

i hope this helps someone...this took me a week to troubleshoot.

thanks,

I started to get all the problems in these posts when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I also lost the presets to the standard PT FX - so I have a sneaking suspicion that this is a path issue between PT and 10.6.x

OK OK!

so I found a solution!! and I'm hoping it works for everyone!

I previously deleted all databases, trashed prefs, re-installed pt, tried to open on a separate drive, spotlight privacy, etc. etc. and still pro tools was taking about 10 minutes to load up.

I then went into the folder Applications>Digidesign>Pro Tools and TRASHED the folder called Log Files. Since doing this I haven't had any problems and pro tools has been opening extremely quickly!

I really hope this works for everyone, this has been such a frustrating experience
