Do you NEED to? Depends on 2 things; your needs(such as, do you use a lot of virtual instruments) and your computer(if its not so new and only has 4-6GB of RAM, you may not see any improvement in performance).

+1 to what Dave is saying. Lars, for myself, I've opted not to for two reasons. First off, in my situation, the part-time studio is still trying to recoup the initial investment of going to Pro Tools just over a year ago (3 months before 11). Secondly, my rig is working fine as it is and I'm the type of guy that rolls with the attitude 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

There seems to still be some bugs with PT's 11. If you finally have things working for you, I would keep it that way. Have you ironed out the hiccups you were having?

PT11 license comes bundled with PT10 so why not upgrade? Keep the old system that you have running rock solid, and then install new system onto an external drive and try the 64-bit goodness and check if all your plugins are already released as AAX64. Then decide when to jump completely using the new system.

I upgraded from PT9 HD to 10 / 11 HD. I wasn't very impressed. I seemed to have more issues. The PT 9 system I had was rock solid. Now that some of those bugs are ironed out PT 10 I'm staying as long as I can. The reason I upgrade was I got sick of asking for PT 9 sessions. It seemed to be a hassle for some people.

'Scuse me while i drag out my soapbox for a minute Its time for uncle Albee's words of advice regarding upgrades. ALWAYS have a backup plan. I upgrade whenever I feel the need, but I always have a path to recovery. Mine is drive cloning. Whenever I feel an upgrade coming on, I clone my system drive and swap the clone for the drive that I just copied. If anything goes sour, or if the upgrade doesn't live up to my needs(PT11 anyone.....), I can revert in the time it takes to shutdown, swap a drive, and reboot(and the drive swap takes about 5 seconds thanks to drive cages)

So, I do have a system drive with PT11 on it, and I CAN use it if I feel adventurous. But, I can also continue working with my fully-loaded PT10 system drive Okay...puttin' the soapbox away for another month

Need and Want are two separate entities. Decide which applies to yourself and make a decision. Of course budget is always a factor to take into consideration for most of us.

I personally 'wanted' PT11 so I went for it and haven't looked back. I've been using PT for a long time now and I don't recall any single version which was problem and/or bug free.

Bugs aside, IMHO PT11 is great and it'll only get better. Having said that, if one doesn't have the correct platform to run it and either doesn't want to or can't afford to upgrade the software (and the hardware if necessary), stay with what you've got.
