Default Robotic Sounding Digital Distortion

Using MBox 2 Mini on a 2X2.8 GHz Quad Core Mac with 4 gig ram. When recording, sometimes I get this robotic sounding digital distortion. I can't seem to permanently fix it, and sometimes it does it, and sometimes it doesn't. Any ideas?????

Hi,

Could be your hardware buffer setting is too low!

So far so good..reset it to 1024 samples. Now having another issue....program seems to be moving very sluggishly and when i try to preview audio files before importing them it is very slow to respond and locks up saying that cpu is overloaded and I need to remove some plugins. I am only using TWO plug-ins (Waves Audio-Track and L1 Ultramaximizer). There is no excuse for this on my quad core mac with 4 gig ram!! What else can I do to optimize?
