The way to have a group fader is to create a stereo AUX track, set its input to an open stereo bus and set the outputs of all tracks you want in the group, to the same stereo bus. Now a single fader will control the group(with individual control still available). Brush up on Mute-safe and Solo-safe if you want to solo the group. You can also select a bunch of tracks and hit Ctrl-G and create a group, but this simply locks them all without giving you a group fader(this GROUP function is not what I gather you want). I believe the manual is installed on the Pro Tools install disc in pdf format. Some of the aftermarket manuals are better(like ProTools Ignite).
