Say,

in most deliverable specs and requirements, most places need the components on a DA-88 (sometimes two, one for "seamless mix", one for "cut to network clock").

I have been wondering for some time, perhaps I could ask u guys here, now in this "modern technology day", can't we submit the components as a data file (WAV or AIFF) on a DVD-R? why is a DA-88 still required?

If they accept DVD-R, I could make as many copies as they want in "non-real time", as opposed to waiting for the DA-88 to stripe audio in realtime.

Besides, if they want to store the DA-88 in their archieve library, a DVD-R would take up less shelf space than a DA-88.

Also, if they want to customise it to other languages, the dubbing house do not need to digitise the DA-88s in real-time and instead just drag and copy the WAVs (or AIFFs) from the DVD-R. Also, we do not have to worry that these houses might be digitising our components / stems via analog I/Os!!

Won't it be better? cheaper? and more efficient?

Regards,
[Charles]
