Default Re: System requirements

Will you need an additional hard drive in order for the Pro Tools LE software to launch, like with TDM systems or can you get by with just a fast ATA/66MHz internal drive?

Copy protection is limited to checking to make sure the hardware is present, so I'd assume the hard drive restrictions (caused by pace) wouldn't apply to the 001.

1- The copy protection on the Digi 001/PT LE will be serial number, so it won't care about the hard drive for CP. Pro Tools LE does require an AMIII, Digi 001, or MIX system in order to run, since it does not work in standalone mode.

2- PT LE will certainly launch with any of the above hardware and just the internal startup drive, and be able to do quite a few tracks. (specific numbers aren't available yet, as we are still testing)

However, if you are doing 24 tracks at 24 bit with lots of plug-ins, you will almost certainly need a separate hard drive. The same hard drives and SCSI cards that are compatible with our TDM systems will be compatible with Digi 001, and this list will be updated at release time based on current testing. In addition, unlike the TDM systems, Pro Tools LE does not require a SCSI drive for recording. IDE drives will work, though possibly not as well as an accelerated 7200+ rpm SCSI drive.
