Default Pro tools 8 Midi Connections - keyboard not recognised when using audio samples

Hi,
I am very new to pro tools and really need help with the following

1) I have myprokeys 88 sono keyboard hooked up to pro tools 8 via the mbox mini 2 and I have configured the midi studio options so it recognises my kebyboard... this works fine when I create an instrument track and use a plug in... for r.g mini grand (piano)

However when I create an audio track and load up a sample or a loop.. I cant control this with my keyboard...

Could someone please tell me how I can use my keyboard to control audio samples as well as plugins... I have been troubleshooting for days now...

Thanks...

How would it work to put a sample or loop on an audio track? I'm not a midi expert, but that doesn't seem right. I would be calling up an instrument track and Structure Free and then drag loops and samples into Structure and assign to keyboard midi notes. I would search youtube and the airusersblog for some tutorials

Thanks for your reply,.,

But when i browse my samples & loops and select them they cannot be dragged onto a midi/instrument track.. they will only drag onto an audio track it this not meant to happen?

As Albee was saying, you need to use a software sampler to play loops and sampler from your keyboard, otherwise you bring them into your session on audio tracks and manipulate them as recorded audio.

I'm pretty sure that Structure Free should be in your inserts under "instruments", you initiate it on an insert on your instrument track. Do some Youtube searches for Stucture, I'm sure you'll find a bunch of instructionals.

Correct, this is how it is designed to work.

Incorrect, this is not how it is supposed to work. You don't drag n drop samples into an audio track unless you want to manipulate them as an audio track.

If you drag n drop samples into a plugin such as Structure, you can then trigger them with a keyboard, as the previous two posts have said.

If you go here;
http://www.airusersblog.com/structure/

there are lots of great tutorial videos on all manner of subjects. It is worth signing up (Free) to get access to them.
