...or better yet, to a real job paying real money. If the boy wants to have own studio, he better have at least 10 grand savings to even get started.

Recording music is today a consumer activity. Only a fool pays to study a consumer activity.

I beg to disagree.

When I record, it only takes a minute to find out whether the "artist" has done the homework. And those artists are in the go-to list when I need something...

I have 5 kids that range from 32 to twins that are 11. I was and honestly still am obsessed about recording and working with audio.

I know as a father you don't want to pop your sons bubble, but you need to get him and you out of the school commitment. I'm sure it will crush him, but they have to grow up and except the real world, better now than later after the money is gone!

Send him here, let us talk to him, there are a great deal of experienced people in the industry that want to help folks around here, you already have some really good ones in this thread already.

If he won't listen to you, let some of these guys talk to him. They will be gentle.

If you want to record music, go to a great music school where you'll meet your future clients. If you want to do post, go to a great film school where once again you'll meet your future clients. You don't need to major in either music or film nor even take a recording course but a successful career is all about who knows what you know.

I taught for a couple years in a local community college so it really doesn't need to be expensive.

Please learn a little business too! I'm TERRIBLE at being the owner. If there were Grammys for "most Inept studio business guy ever" I'd be a shoe in. Knowing a little about the business side of things would always be helpful. Now I gotta go pay my taxes damnit!

I agree. Unless you are planning to be an artist or a DJ, forget about the glamour. Even then, it's just hard work and traveling man. Then you have to sit in the studio for hours sometimes. It's good if you enjoy it but there is nothing fancy about it. That's all hype. It's quite 'analog' if I may say - (Takes a bow).
