Can a mix core be used as a mix farm?
I seem to have read that a mix 24 core can be used as a farm card if put in the proper order. Is this true?

Yes, it is true, just put it in before any actual Farms and your good to go.

Yes, it will work. As milesofwire mentioned, make sure the card order is like this:
Cores first, then MIX farms, then DSP farm IIs, then DSP farms, then Samplecells.
