As far as I can tell this is very plugin dependent. Some plugins only use a single core for 40% as shown on the MacOS cpu meter (not the Protools meters, they are useless). But stuff like izoptope rx and autoalign are using all the physical cores.

Then regarding Ram, i know the more the better. I currently have 64Gb ram in my trashcan, I dont think I ever use it to capacity, not even with laster VI projects . But would 48 Gb ram be suffient, or would more be prefered?

Difference is so small why save there? Just get 64 gigs you will be fine with it for some time

If RAM purchased from Apple they don't offer 64. Its 48 and then 96 and the jump is an additional $700.

You can always update the RAM yourself so you can try 48 and then buy more if you need it.

Oh? Well my bad, haven't tried buying one as I am perfectly fine with my 10-core Trashcan so far.

I'm sure 48 gigs will be plenty, extra 700 sounds pretty steep. At least give it a try and upgrade once 3rd party RAM gets cheaper
