Default PT8 Weird bugs and performance issues

Two bugs which occur relatively consistently on my m-powered system are:

1. Mix window is usually, but not always, black on project load. I have to close the window and reopen it (minimizing doesn't work) for it to display anything

2. If I try to save a project when the following conditions are met:

a. song playing
b. edit window minimized
c. mix window showing

then most of the menu options will grey out and CPU usage will jump to near 100%. If I restore the Edit window from its minimized state, then operation returns to normal.

Has anyone else gotten either of these?

I've also noticed it seems like PT8 for windows is a very big resource hog.. i've seen PT7 on older windows systems and it didn't seem to bog down nearly as much, even with the same projects loaded. I like the new interface but not if it comes at the cost of performance.

What are your system details? Post a Sandra report so we can see what we're dealing with. This could be anything from outdated plug-ins to hardware issues to a bad PT install. Is this on PT8 only? What interface are you using? What version of Windows?

Not enough, we need a Sandra report in order to understand your system.
Drives FAT or NTFS? Firewire controller? Onboard sound? USB? Etc?

i don't feel comfortable posting the entire sandra report online since I haven't even gone through it and seen what is in it. I've included more of the info you asked for.

i had these problems on a clean install of winxp sp3 with no plug is installed so I doubt it's a software conflict issue.

I also noticed saving causes problems whenever the edit window is minimized, not just during playback

Is your Ipod hooked up as you are running PT?

sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. i will check to see if there is any change in behavior when it's plugged in vs not plugged in

I don't have itunes installed though or any other apple software for the ipod besides the default drivers which are automatically installed.. I use an open source ipod manager instead

Ipod not plugged in, still getting the consistent bug: any time I save with the edit window is minimized, I have to restore the window before I can do anything else

Are you recording onto a FAT32 session drive? Don't. NTFS basic only.

Default Re: PT8 Weird bugs and performance issues

I've experienced both of these bugs on my system... It's happened on 3 different systems for me. At first I thougtht it was because I did and upgrade install to 8 instead of clean. Since then, I built an i7 rig with a fresh install of XP Pro and PTLE 8.

The only common denominator is my Seagate Sata HDs. However, this also occured on my laptop that I use to edit with an mbox mini. I'm away from my i7 so I have not Sandra yet but is there any added info on this subject or another thread I should check out.

Thoughts?
