Default Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Generation and PT 12

I'm running PT 12.5.2 on a Windows 10 OS. I see where Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd generation is supposed to work with Win 10 and work with PT | First. So I assumed if it works for PT | First, it should work with PT 12 also?? I guess not. You know what assuming does.

I'm pretty discouraged at this point. Now I'm going to contact Focusrite and see if they can't get a driver that works for PT 12 on Win 10. It's worth a shot.

Did you get the latest driver (from the Focusrite downloads page)?

Ya, I'm using the most current driver, as specified by Focusrite. And I've got the firmware updater installed too, so if they do an update I'll know. I wrote tech support there and told them the issues I was having, maybe they'll consider it.

Right now the Scarlett 2i2 clicks and pops even for Windows 10. I have ASIO4ALL installed also. Here's a Sandra Lite report (8/8/2016). If anyone has any suggestions let me know. Thanks!!

I'm not sure why you are using ASIO4ALL for anything. Make sure Pro tools is not using that (always check the playback engine dialog panel).

Make sure Window 10 sounds and any other apps do not the 2i2 selected as an interface.

What buffer size are you using? What sample rate are you working at?

Is your system fully optimized? Go check again that everything is done.

Have you tried trashed prefs? Trying starting with a new empty session (at say 44.1kHz)? Temp. removing all third party plugins from the plugin folder. Making sure "ignore errors" is *not* checked. etc.

I had installed ASIO4ALL because tech support at Sweetwater Music recommended it as I was having the same errors come up (AAE -9173). I uninstalled ASIO4ALL just now, and launched PT with the playback engine as my Focusrite (the only one there). I've disabled all other audio apps/interfaces etc.. except the Focusrite Scarlett. I've fully optimized the computer and OS. Using 512 samples at sample rates at 44.1kHz, 48kHz and 96kHz (separately launching PT for each sample rate). I trashed the prefs. I'm using stock plugins. "Ignore Errors" is not checked in the playback engine. I also disable my network adapter.

Issues - CPU total running normally at 5-8% except when it spikes to 100%. Clicking/popping because of that. Went into BIOS and disabled INTEL SpeedStep. Still doing same thing.

The CPU spikes occur immediately after launching PT, without even opening a session.

Just called Focusrite tech support, they sent me a link to a new driver not on their site yet for Win 10. He told me to test it, and so far the audio is still popping and clicking, and spiking the CPU on PT.

AAE 9173 error with Pro Tools 12, well not an uncommon problem at all on recent releases. DUC is full of posts about this.

Delete any click tracks/uninstatiate any Click II plugins from the session.

And make sure you try...

Trash prefs occasionally as you try these other things..

You can use ASIO4ALL with your motherboard sound chip (or it it has a native ASIO driver use that instead of ASIO4ALL) and see if that problem goes away (i.e. is the 2i2 a factor or not). If not then go back to the plain ASIO driver for the 2i2.

So you have removed all third party plugins from plugin folder, just not using them in the session is not enough they have to be removed. 9173 can be caused by plugins you have installed but not instantiated in a session.

Make sure "dynamic plugin processing" is *not* enabled.

Does this happen on a new empty session?

Try going back to Pro Tools 12.4

Do they keep going for a while or settle down straight away?

Suspect plugins... what third party plugins are installed in Pro Tools?

Move *all* plugins out of the Plugin folder and let Pro Tools put the default one back when it starts up. What happens then?
