Default Installing PT10 without ASIO sound card present.

Hi folks! First post here. Be nice.

I'm new to Pro Tools. Our studio has been stuck in the past using Mackie's HDR / D8B system for way too long and we've finally bitten the bullet and bought PT10 and built a (hopefully) suitable PC.

We're going to be running 16 analog I/O using 2 MOTU 2408's for now, until we can afford the upgrade to HD Native and a Lynx Aurora or similar.

Anyway, my question:
Can you install PT without a soundcard present?
My assumption would be that you can just edit your ASIO prefs at any time so it shouldn't be a problem. However, we all know what they say about assumption.

Please expect many idiotic posts on our quest for some kind of aural utopia.

Over to you...

You can install it... but you won't be able to run it. Something running ASIO (whether onboard soundcard, or a peripheral) must be present to open Pro Tools.

Great, thanks for the speedy info. So I'm guessing that as soon as the MOTU PCIe-424 has been dropped into the board and installed, Pro Tools will boot?

The only reason I ask is because the PT software has arrived, but I'm still waiting on the PCIe, which will likely be a few days. Plus, I'm impatient.
