Working for me as well. Handles lower buffers better than PT 10.

While I haven't done it myself, I know people using HDX cards in a 3,1. Unsupported but working.

but in this case what about the supposed failure on the firmware update that should make cards unusable ???

Hi Drew

Can you open video in PT 11 with your 2008 Mac Pro?

With mine I cannot, it asks to enable the video engine and then pauses forever.

Also happens with an i7 Hackintosh on ML 10.8.4 as well as Windows 7 on both machines.

It's a potential. I updated the firmware in my HD Native card when I first got it.

You could always get your dealer to do it for you. Firmware upgrades are rare.
