Eleven Rack doesn't output sound from PT11/Mac

I have just installed Pro Tools 11 and experience the same problem.

For the latest Eleven Rack 1.2 driver Avid states, "Mac OS X 10.9, 10.9.1 Mavericks support only".
Well, my OS X is 10.9.2, so maybe the driver is not compatible?

When I select Eleven Rack in the Mac's System Preferences > Sound it says:
"The selected device has no output controls". So I am also not able to use iTunes via Eleven, which I normally do.

This indicates a general problem between Mac OS and Eleven Rack firmware, doesn't it?

Unfortunately this sounds like a known issue which affects Avid USB interfaces on some Core 2 Duo Macs running Mavericks.

Please see this KB article (subscribe to it to be notified as new info is posted).

I've been having the same problem as well. Finally found this thread and the link to the KB article that explains what I've been seeing for months! Avid customer support did not seem to know what is going on when I called in with the support code. Is it possible to estimate when a fix will be available?

I realise that Avid is working on this problem. However, there hasn't been an update here: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ess=y&isdtp=vw
for more than a month. I also realise that Apple have implemented something in Mavericks that is messing with some of Avid's interfaces/technology.
But i cannot "Temporarily run under a previous Mac OS" as Avid suggests.
More info updates, please! The problem may not be Avid's "fault" - but I'm now looking at alternatives to Eleven Rack and other Avid products.

I have exactly same problem. I have Core2Duo iMac Late 2009 with Mavericks on it and have no sound on Eleven Rack outputs from iTunes, Pro Tools and so on. But one strange thing I've noticed it is working when playing sound from souncloud widgets. For example Eleven rack examples on avid page playing perfect. But from Youtube no sound again...

And how do you know you have exactly the same problem? The symptoms do not seem the same and/or not clear enough to say.

And are you sure you just don't have the well known USB interface/Core 2/Mavericks driver issue http://duc.avid.com/showpost.php?p=2151452 (maybe not - I expect it would not work at all, but OTOH what sample rate are you trying to play at? And do you have an old rev Eleven Rack with the clock hardware bug).

For info, I have a Macbook pro 2008 core 2 duo and a Eleven Rack with the latest drivers and Mac OS El Capitan.
I found a way to make it work fully. you must must your MAC with the level rack already on and plugged in USB. Then it's fully recognized, re amping also.
I am using Logic pro and it's working perfectly.

I'm having this problem and I can't see any solutions on this thread so I thought I'd bump it.


I have a Macbook Pro 2017 running High Sierra 10.13.4. I'm wating to use the 11r to link my mac with my Presonus E5 powered speaker, to play itunes etc.


My 11r works when playing guitar through it and using my powered speaker from the Output to Amp (Although im getting a surprisingly flubby sound for the bassier bits, but thats another matter).


My 11r also works to record on garageband. So theres no fundamental problem connecting to the laptop. The issue is when I select my 11r as sound output from my macbook. I get no sound from itunes etc from my powered speaker via the 11r. Any idea what the problem could be?
