Default Mbox 3 Pro Crashes Mac OS X Lion

Hi,

I upgraded to the official release of OS X Lion today to check if a problem I had with my Mbox 3 Pro and the GM release were still present to find out that it is.

The problem:

Merely turning the mbox 3 pro on while connected to my macbook pro (running Lion) via firewire makes my macbook pro crash (The grey screen that requires you to force shut down).

Turning on the device prior to starting up my MBP would prevent OS X from booting up (get a bunch of error messages on the boot up screen with the grey apple).

I understand very well that its way too early to expect any working drivers for this but the fact that it just crashes my mac entirely bothers me.

Is this really a driver issue? or something more serious like an incompatibility with the way Lion handles firewire devices?

Does anyone know if the problem persists with the USB versions of the 3rd gen Mbox?

yep my mac pro crashed as well and had to restore the OS.
glad its on a different partition for a test and i didn't update snow leopard.

seems to be a driver issue according to the system error generated upon reboot , although i don't understand a word but it does have a message related to mboxpro.kext or something like that.

i tried installing the driver without having mbox 3 pro plugged in. it still crashed.

the usb mbox 3 devices crash as well.

Does anyone have an idea of how long it could take for working drivers to be released?

It's my first time using an avid product during a major OS X release.

I'm using Lion it right now, so far for 2 days, I've had nothing but stellar results. I'm using it at work on an 2010 iMac. I've not tried Protools on Lion though.

better revert back to snow leopard.
the drivers will probably be out later this year. its always the case with Avid (and most other audio companies)

Barry,
you had stellar results with a DAW or you are talking about the OS itself ?

This is exactly what is happening to me on my iMac running Lion. Unfortunately this is a new computer and I don't have a Leapord disc to install. Why hasn't Avid taken care of this problem yet? I am going to have to sell the mbox pro without even trying it yet and use something else so I can record.

Have you downloaded the 9.0.5 update that brings compatibility for Lion? And have you made sure you've downloaded the latest drivers for your Mbox?

Yes, I have 8.0.5. I downloaded all the latest drivers and software updates. The problem is I cannot use my interface at all. I would like to use it with Reason/Record in the mean time but I simply can not turn on the interface without the computer crashing.

Had the same problem. Download a MBoxPro 3 Beta driver for Lion. Works here so far....

Good luck.
Andre.

AndreN,
I encountered the same problem between my MboxPro 3 and Lion. I did follow the link you provided and installed the driver, now it works wonderfully and I don't get that depressing force restart message on my compy anymore!
I've got another question, which is unrelated to the MboxPro. For the past several years, I've been working on Pro Tools 8 with a Kensington 5-button mouse using the MouseWorks software. I can't get the MouseWorks software to work on Lion. Can anyone advise?

Thanks. Mark
