Has anybody had any problems with the Green Power Hard Drives from Western Digital??
I was looking at getting more hard drives for my Mac Pro and a local computer shop has the 1TB Green Power Western Digitals for $128 ea. I went online to WD's website and these drives are 7200 RPM and have a 16MB buffer. Do you guys think they would be a good buy? Or... should I get something different other than the Green Power ones?
Thanks for being awesome!! -Doug

Please make sure you read our information on supported firewire drives before making a purchase:

Re: Has anybody had any problems with the Green Power Hard Drives from Western Digita
the "Green" drives have internal power management that reduces RPMs, not a good thing for Pro Tools in my book

Re: Has anybody had any problems with the Green Power Hard Drives from Western Digita
You're talking about the internal SATA's right? Ignore Digi's comments about firewire, I think they're lost...
I just got one of the ones you're talking about (model WD10EACS) - It's a nice drive, but I wouldn't recommend it for Pro Tools sessions. I use mine to hold my massive iTunes library (yes, it takes up a full 1TB drive) - the thing about the "green power" drives is that while they're listed at 7200rpm, they don't actually perform that way, which is why I wouldn't recommend them for PT. They have great power saving features, but those features are counter to drive performance, which is what you need for a good PT compatible drive. Oops, Craig F beat me too it with a much more concise response. I think you get the idea now though... |

Oops, sorry I thought that drive was a firewire drive. So yes, ignore my previous comment.

Green would be fine for offline storage, maybe even for samples and SFX
