Default MIDI sample cycle triggering with the same note?

Hi. a question for any programmer gurus out there,
Im not sure really what to ask... i used a v-drum kit the other day and there was one preset where every time I hit the kick drum it would cycle through a certain number of different samples on each hit.
how is this done ?
I have reason and pt, and i want to be able to replicate this process with these if possible.

any advice ??

G,day there,

What do you mean by 'certain number of different samples'?

a) You hear a different sound with each hit of the drum?

b) Does it depend on how hard you hit?

c) Or a single hit causes a series of sounds to play, that is, hit the drum once, and it plays a collection of sounds, one after the other?

hi phil, its like a), Im still not sure how to describe fully...

hit once and it triggers the first segment of the loop,
hit again and the next section of the loop is triggered
and so on.

its a really cool effect done with an 'older' v-drum brain and the kick drum pad.
and its got me stumped how to re-create..
it could be triggering program changes... maybe its got some serious velocity layering..
still having trouble figuring it out.

Hmmm... that is a strange one.

What's the 'loop' of? A drum pattern lasting one measure/bar? A sound effect?

Coming from someone who doesn't have 'v-drums, kontakt, halion, battery, reason', or Pro Tools for that matter (well, in the proces of upgrading 001->002) , I'm short for ideas.

Yeah, assigning various samples inside a 'multisample' with each sample triggered from a different velocity would do something similar.

Could be useful too... making each pad able to spit out a completely different sound, depending on hard you hit it.

Anyway, that's the best I can think of.

Phil

best way to describe it would be if a single hit triggered a note say 'C' then the next time you hit the same trigger it played a 'd' etc etc for 8 counts or so in an ascending scale then back to the starting 'c'

ive had a bit of a breakthrough with battery tho,
you can add as many samples as you like to a single cell (note) stack them sequentially according to the amount graphed on the velocity scale. but.. most of the lower velocity layers have a lower volume which is a bitch to adjust right..

i dont have a pad here, just a crappy controller kb so its not really accurate, most of the time it seems to 'guess' the velocity.

not really 'it' yet but getting there

ok, mucked around with a mates cubase rig with the following results;

the inbuilt arpeggiator has a continuous trigger mode.
this means as it arpeggiates, its only plaing one note per trigger as it ascends

and it allows you to drag any midi file from the sequencer for your own custom progression

yay !
