Default Mixing music in 5.1 for fun

Hi gang. Over the weekend I upgraded from PT LE 8.0.5 to 10! I also got a new interface, the Saffire Pro 40.

I have no intention of dropping $2k on the CPTK, so I've connected an extra pair of speakers to output 3-4, just being clever with my busses, to start fooling around with mixing some of my music in 5.1 surround.

I'm a total beginner when it comes to this. Are there any good resources out there for someone like me?

I'm probably not quite ready to get into divergence/convergence type of stuff, just some basic tips, and "101" type of stuff for things like what frequencies to send to the sub and how to split them out.

Thanks! J

For me, if you've made a REALLY good stereo mix, that's far better for me than if you create a pretty good 5.1 mix. One of the keys in my book is to create a nice, wide stereo image, especially if the cue is playing over dialog, so it can easily be moved out of the center speaker.
