Default Pads

I recorded a band the other day and one of the most frustrating things is that there are no pad switches on the 003 rack pres, and the snare was constantly clipping. I had to run it through my o1v which i had connected through adat. it was a quick work around but i didn't think the pre's in the o1v sounded as clean as the 003 rack...

does anyone know of a way to reduce the level of the pre because it was peaking even when it was wound all the way down. is it possible to add a pad switch to it in any way?

thanks

Whirlwind makes an in-line pad. (its halfway down the page)

will there be any loss in signal quality if i was to use this at all? i'm not entirely sure how or whether a pad affects the quality of the pre or the mic

You could always go to Radio Shack and buy an XLR to TRS ( 1/4 ) adapter, or a regular TRS Mic cable and send a Line Level from the snare into the Line Inputs on the 003 ,or a regular TRS Mic cable You'll have a pad on those If you need it.
Yes the Mic pre's will sound better but it won't hurt to try

No loss in quality, rather it should be an improvement, since you're not stressing the pre. It works exactly the same as a pre with a built-in pad, meaning that it hits the pad before the pre. It's a simple in-line resistor, nothing to worry about in terms of sonic integrity.

Much better than running a mic to a line input!
