Default best size for mac internal hard drive?

Hi,
I just happened to read in a two-year-old book on Pro Tools that on a mac I shouldn't use a hard drive bigger than 120gb. But, I just recently bought a 300gb hard drive as a second drive for recording both audio (with pro tools) and video. Am I in trouble here? What kind of problems should I expect, if any?

I have a Powermac g5 running OS 10.3.9. I use an M-box (stereo only).

Thanks a lot for any help.

No problems, you'll be fine.

The only thing you should watch out for (not hard drive related) is if you let Quicktime 7 get installed along with 10.3.9 - it sometimes causes problems (especially with the coreaudio driver and MIDI). If you're running ok though, then don't worry about it.

It'll be fine. You should partition for audio/video. I had heard that some 300G & 400G drives were a bit flaky (Western Digital SATA's), but this is only anicdotal. I popped in a second Seagate 250GB HDD SATA that has run perfectly & performs really well. When the 10,000 rpm drives get bigger I'll upgrade to one of those (for both system & media).

I've found Seagate's drives to be excellent overall. I have 2 in my G4, and I've never had problem with them, the 80 gig that came with the computer and a 160 gig for audio/video. I also have a 160 GB Western Digital, which has thus far been very good to me.

I also have a 300 GB Maxtor OneTouch II FireWire drive, and that plays nice with ProTools, as well.
