Default Confused about crossfades.

So I'm editing some dialog that has pops and clicks. I just put it in shuffle mode, delete the cycle that has a jagged waveform, then crossfade.

So this is what it looks like before I try the fade:

I just want to do a small fade to avoid axis pops. So I select a portion of each region like so:

But this is the result:

Usually fades work out for me, but every once in a while this happens where it will not match up with the next region. I tried it both as equal gain and equal power and they both have the same effect. And I tried to grab the region at the zero crossing on each region, but it still happens. I don't understand why it does this, and I guess I'm not very educated on the subject since I'm pretty new to ProTools.

Sometimes I can get away with just selecting both regions and hitting F. But with editing like this where I'm taking away a pop, a fade that big will bring the pop back in.

So what am I doing wrong? What do you do to fix this problem? It's frustrating trying to just guess where a fade is going to work and where it won't.

Is there some type of "search zero crossings" feature in ProTools like there is in Logic? That would be awesome. It's so unnecessarily difficult to do this kind of editing. There's gotta be an easier way. Are there plug-ins that can eliminate these kind of pops and clicks?
