PT12 crash everytime i hit record button

hi everybody!
i recently upgrade PT to the 2018.12 version and it seems to work fine at first, but after a pc reboot, as i said in the title, if i hit the record button, on an audio track, it immidiatly crash and close. Also the playback function doesn' t work, it flash for a second then nothing happen.
My setup:
PC tower intel i5 with Win10
focusrite scarlett 18i8

things i tryed:
-unplug the audio interface and use the general audio driver (both windows and ASIO4ALL);
-unistall the new PT version and reinstall the previous one (2018.10);
-search on internet and in this forum about similar case;
-create a case on my account profile (by now any answer)

can you help me find a way to solve this problem??

Hi fausto !

Sorry to hear that . I know that focusrite drivers can be really annoying sometimes .
Can you verifiy that windows is not using your scarllet as default playback device while using protools on your windows sound panel ?

Verify that in fact your focusrite is selected on PT playback engine . And be shure to download or reinstall the scarlett lastest driver .

first of all thanks for your fast reply, i will check them when i come back home this evening.
i am pretty sure the drivers are up to date, i have also disabled the windows sounds.
However i will let you know very soon!

Awesome will wait . But not just disable windows sounds also check that the default device selected for playback is not the scarlett .

While you’re waiting for Fausto to get back....

I use my scarlet device to playback EVERYTHING. That way I can play through my monitors.
It seems to be okay but is there a reason I shouldn’t do this?

Good news!
Somehow i fixed it, i think was a buffer mismatch between my scareltt configuration (on its stand alone app given by The focusrite to manage The audio routing) and The pt configurations under "playback engine", probably due to the latest win10 upgrade i made. However, from avid they told me to follow the stepbystep guide for optimizing win but fortunely i didn t need it!!!

Hi it seems to me ok as long as the interface driver and Protools allows it . I have a clarett 8 X and with that interface driver ** i can ** playback everything ( media player , quicktime , netflix , youtube , you name it ) while working on protools . I couldn't do this before on windows with any of my old interfaces .

Whether the interface can work for both PT and Windows sounds is down to the driver. It needs to be "multi-client". Some do that well, some do it not-so-well, and some don't work at all, which is why Windows users are told to set Windows to use the on-board sound card as its "default playback device". This doesn't mean you CAN'T run Windows sounds thru the interface, its just the best "first step" in solving Windows-Pro Tools issues. Feel free to try it both ways. If it works, count yourself lucky and roll on If it doesn't work, then you know the solution(and there are several ways to get Windows audio to play thru your monitors when the driver forces separate paths)
