Default Pro Tools First & Focusrite Scarlette -- Recording is muffled

I have the free version of Pro-Tools that comes with a Focusrite Scarlette. The bit rate is around 44 (I think). The sound quality is not very good. I notice the volume bands are not very wide. Any ideas on how to fix that? pls open attached picture file.

Well with that mountain of info regarding OS versions, Mic, signal chain etc you will not get any help what so ever. Pls re-think your post and fix whats missing. We are tood but not MK Ultra Good! (old military mindreading and reading the Future organization often worked with Alien Project Blue book and such)

The width of the volume bands doesn't look right. I know from previous recording experience that you want to widen the volume bands as much as possible without clipping them... See picture in OP. The audio sampling patterns are too narrow (I think). The backing track (top pattern) looks perfect the way I used to do things -- it right on the money. It also sounds very clear by itself.
