Default PTN and 003R

Hi everyone,
I'm in the long term process of upgrading to higher end gear. Got a Macpro, 3.2 8-core, 132gb, 003R running PT9.0.1. did a search and couldn't really find an answer.
I just ordered a Lynx Aurora8. I'm trying to figure out the best way to utilize the aurora8 for now. I'm trying to avoid FW so i'm juggling between ADAT or AES.
If i go AES, i'll need both the PCI card AND the interface Card for the Aurora.

BUT

If i go the ADAT route, i would need just the ADAT interface card for the Aurora. little bit cheaper.

So, the question is, if i go the ADAT route, can i run PTN9 with an 003R in the audio chain? i am aware PT9 is now standaloneable.
Also, is there a difference in performance between AES/EBU and ADAT?
Any other suggestions?
